My fitness journey began a few days after bringing my newborn twins home from the hospital. I had a 3 year old and a 1 year old home already and now two newborns. I was overwhelmed with joy, love and stress! My patience was wearing thin and I was losing my sense of self quickly. I decided that I would go to the gym at 5am the next morning, just to release some stress. Early morning workouts quickly became part of my routine. When I returned home after a killer workout, my children were just waking up. I felt ready to take on feedings, diapers, and endless rounds of Ring-Around-the-Rosie, but would tire at 3 pm. I lived on left over macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets and coffee.
I was clocking over an hour of cardio a day. I lost most of the baby weight, but I still lacked the athletic physique I desired. After some research, I realized that I needed help with my diet and my training program. I began to train “as if” I was a bikini competitor. I wanted that look, but thought I could never get on stage. After all, I’m a 38 year old mother of four! Well, after two years of soul searching and a lot of encouragement from the best in the industry – I stepped on stage this past April. It was terrifying! Yet, I’ve never felt more beautiful or more confident! By my third show in June, I placed 2nd in the Figure category and 3rd in the Fitness Model category. This November, I’m taking it a step further and will be competing for my professional status. All because I took some chances and stepped outside of my comfort zone.
During this journey, I have learned how to sculpt my body through healthy eating and exercise. I have also learned how to keep my life balanced. I eat ice cream with my kids and still wear a bikini to the beach. My workouts leave me energized, not exhausted. I do not spend countless hours in the gym or eat salads everyday. There is so much more in life to enjoy!
Now I want to inspire others to enjoy the same life I lead. I have learned so much and want to share it with others, so they live their best life. Today is a new day and a new beginning. Let’s take that first step together!
